Insoles & Components 57 1. Check the footwear in which the orthotic insole is to be placed. Footwear must not be too worn or damaged. Remove any existing linings or arch cushions from the shoe. 2. Clinically ascertain the requirements of the patient. Gather together the relevant materials needed to create the adapted insole. 3. Select a flat-based neutral insole from our range. 4. Our Slimflex range comes in many different types, each varying in rigidity, heel width, arch support and density. We offer a wide range in moulded insoles, allowing you to choose the insole which best suits the needs of the individual patient. 5. Based on diagnosis, take a wedge strip or podo wedge of either 3.5 or 5 degrees. Cut the strip to the desired length. Decide where the wedging device is to be inserted onto the insole, and trim with a pair of scissors where necessary. 6. All of our components and wedges now come with a self-adhesive backing for ease of use. Simply peel off the protective backing and place in the correct position on the insole. Press down firmly to stick the wedge onto the insole. 7. Once you are happy with the placement of the components, trim off any excess off the insole with a pair of scissors. 8. Place the insole into the shoe of the patient and ask them to walk around. Check that the orthotic is comfortable. Please note that it can take some time for a patient to adjust to the new insoles, which usually takes only a few days. 9. Due to the low cost of this range, different insole types and wedging sizes can be used to assess patient tolerance. Slimflex Adaptation Guides Heat mouldable, grindable and easy to cut and adhere to, the Slimflex ranges allows for quick modification and full patient customisation. Some advanced modification options include: ■ Simple medial and lateral posts ■ Heel lift additions ■ Metatarsal raise / bar additions ■ Shape modification All insoles within the Slimflex range can be heat moulded using a standard heat gun. Components can be added from our extensive Podotech range to make simple or advanced modifications. Pre-cut, self-adhesive Podo wedges are available in either 3.5 or 5 degrees and are ideal for medial and lateral postings. Sections of the Slimflex insole can be cut out and met domes can be added. Cut the Podotech wedge strip (available in both 3.5 or 5 degrees) to the desired length and position in place Lateral postings can be cut to any desired shape and are self-adhesive for ease of use.
