Founded in 1881 in Liverpool by boot-maker John
Algeo, Algeos began life as a leather and grindery
merchant serving the shoe-repair trade. Since
incorporating in 1947 as A. Algeo Ltd, the
company has remained family-owned, having
passed through only three ownership lineages —
a reflection of our deeply rooted values and long-
standing commitment to people.
Under the leadership of Alan Sheridan, who took
ownership in 1990, Algeos transitioned from its
leather heritage into a leading medical supplier,
laying the foundation for international expansion
and a broader clinical impact.
From those early days, we've grown into one of
the UK's most respected manufacturers and
distributors across podiatry, physiotherapy,
orthotics, and prosthetics. Our well-known
brands, including Aortha, Diaped, Slimflex, and
Podotech, now sit proudly alongside the global
brands we represent, helping clinicians deliver
better outcomes for patients every day.
Today, Team Algeos includes nearly 100
colleagues worldwide, all working together with
one shared goal: to improve movement, comfort,
and care through innovation and partnership.
