4 ELECTRICAL THERAPY TENS Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. The treatment consist of passing mild electrical impulses through your skin into the nerve fibres which lie below. Contact is made with skin via the electrodes. TENS electrodes are generally placed around the painful area, over the painful area or over acupuncture points. TENS is a highly effective treatment for pain. It is used worldwide and recommended by sports coaches, physiotherapy departments, pain clinics, doctors and other medical practitioners. A TENS unit will ease pain, and should result in a decrease of drug intake. For many the relief is dramatic. Ease conditions such as: •Rheumatoid and Osteo-arthritis •Back Pain •Menstrual Pain •Labour Pain •Peripheral Nerve Injuries •Headache and Migraine •Sports Injuries •Sciatica •Aching Joints •Post Operative Pain •Muscular Pain •Whiplash and Neck Injury With every TENS machine purchase you will receive a FREE Physioworx carry case, manual, 4 electrodes, battery and leads. Terminology Guide: •EMS: Stands for Electrical Muscle Stimulation (sometimes also called Electronic Muscle Stimulation). •Pulse Rate: Pulses Per Second. •Pulse Width: The pulse width is how wide each pulse is. It's measured in extremely small intervals called microseconds. •Amplitude: The amplitude is what you feel when you "turn the unit up". It's what causes the "buzzing" sensation of the TENS to go higher or lower. •SDR: Strength-Duration and Rate modulation. SDR consists of alternating modulated intensity (amplitude) and pulse rate so that one parameter is always increasing while the other is decreasing and vice-versa. •SDW: Strength Duration and Width modulation. SDW consists of alternating modulated intensity (amplitude) and pulse width so that one parameter is always increasing while the other is decreasing and vice-versa. •Dual Channel: Means the TENS has to inputs for two sets of electrodes. •Patient Lock System: When activated, allows parameters to be set and locked preventing the patient from changing the settings. •Pulse Intensity: Turning the knobs for the intensity, width and rate will allow you to adjust the pulses until you reach one that is comfortable and relieving your pain.
